IWGDPT Berlin Group publishes working paper on Extended Reality

The International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology (also known as the Berlin Group) chaired by the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI), has presented a new paper containing recommendations on data protection regarding "Extended Reality" applications. The paper contains recommendations for both political actors and developers of applications of Extended Reality technologies and contributes to a better application of these technologies in line with fundamental rights.

The paper explains applications examples of Extended Reality technologies—such as in the field of gaming or wearables—where neutral or personal data concerning a user or other uninvolved individuals may be collected and processed from various sources.
