1. This table sets out the salaries different ministerial offices are entitled to under the Ministerial and Other Salaries Act (1975), as amended by the Ministerial Salaries (Amendment) Act 2026, and the salaries claimed by the holders of those ministerial offices.
2. That amount listed as an entitled salary is the value of a salary payable to a Minister in law. The amount listed as a claimed salary is the amount a Minister chooses to receive. Ministers voluntarily waive a portion of their entitled salary at the request of the Prime Minister, who has chosen to retain a freeze on ministerial salaries.
3.1 Legal Basis for Ministerial Salaries
3. The entitlement of government Ministers to receive a salary is set out in the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975. Schedule 1 of the Act gives details of the salaries paid to different ranks of Minister, with a total of 120 salaries payable.
4. Section 1A of the Act makes provision for the value of such salaries and for ministerial and other salaries to increase annually based on the average increase in Senior Civil Service pay, excluding Permanent Secretaries (should there be an increase).
