Eurojust cooperation with Iraq supports landmark terrorism conviction in Slovenia

Eurojust Version 1 original current

Imported from official source

A recent ruling in Slovenia marked the first judgment in the country in which an asylum seeker was sentenced to five years in prison for membership of a foreign terrorist organisation. The judgement is not yet final. Eurojust provided swift support to the Specialised State Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Slovenia in obtaining crucial evidence from Iraq, making use of the recently signed Working Arrangement with the National Centre for International Judicial Cooperation (NCIJC) of the Republic of Iraq. The cooperation enabled the necessary evidence to be obtained within a tight timeframe, before the maximum period for the accused’s remand in custody expired.
