Three months after Venezuela’s earthquakes: as communities' needs evolve, so does the Red Cross response On 24 June 2026, two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck north-central Venezuela just 39 seconds apart. The whole world was moved by the devastation and grief, but also by the strength and resilience with which affected communities faced the disaster, the largest to hit the country this century. Three months on, fear, anxiety and the need for water and health care are still there. So are Red Cross teams, alongside thousands of affected people. Since the earthquakes struck, the Venezuelan Red Cross (VRC) has led the response from inside the disaster zone, working with the IFRC to deliver multisectoral assistance. This has included food and water, emergency shelter, mobile health clinics, water and sanitation solutions and psychosocial support, as well as help for affected families to meet their basic daily needs with dignity. Three months later, that work has not slowed.
