EPA Builds Prosecution Capacity of Compliance Officers Through Legal Enforcement Training
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has strengthened the capacity of its Compliance Officers in environmental law enforcement and prosecution through a Legal Enforcement and Trial Advocacy Training Masterclass held at the Ghana School of Law in Accra.
The training equipped officers with practical skills in case preparation, charge sheet drafting, courtroom advocacy and prosecution procedures to enhance effective enforcement of environmental laws.
Speaking at the programme, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations at the EPA, Prof. Michael Ayamga, emphasised the importance of applying the knowledge acquired beyond the classroom.
“The certificate you have received today validates your ability to prepare charge sheets and successfully prosecute environmental offences. However, the real measure of success will not be the certificate, but how you apply the knowledge gained in practice,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Victoria Abasontey described the training as a significant milestone, noting that officers had moved from issuing enforcement notices to gaining the confidence and skills to prepare charges and argue cases in court.
The training forms part of EPA’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance and ensuring effective enforcement of Ghana’s environmental laws.
