EPA’S Two-Day Styrofoam Campaign in Kumasi

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) held a two-day public sensitization programme in Kumasi on Wednesday, 26 August and Thursday, 27 August 2026, as part of campaign ahead of Ghana’s ban on Styrofoam (Takeaway) products in January 2027. The two-day programme combined community and market outreach, public education, EPA Clinics and the “EPA in Focus” evening engagement, bringing the campaign directly to traders, consumers, businesses, stakeholders and the general public.

DAY ONE – FLOAT AND MARKET ENGAGEMENT
The outreach began with an awareness float from Angloga Junction through the principal streets of Kumasi and landed at Kejetia market, where EPA staff, celebrities, Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB Queens) and social media influencers engaged traders, consumers and the general public on the need to move away from Styrofoam takeaway packs and adopt environmentally friendly alternatives.

The campaign received support from popular personalities and TikTokers, including Dr. Likee, Papa Kumasi, Wayoosi, Killer Ntua, Lolipop and Hon. Michael Afrane who delivered messages as part of the programme and also demonstrated on the ban and alternatives.

Following the float, the EPA team proceeded to the Kejetia Market for a direct market engagement, interacting with traders and consumers and sensitizing them on the ban, its implications and the need to embrace sustainable alternatives.

The EPA Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, officially addressed the campaign and reiterated the importance of collective action in promoting responsible environmental practices.

The Kejetia outreach underscores the EPA’s commitment to taking environmental education directly to communities and markets while mobilizing collective action towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Ghana.
