EPA Leads Public Awareness Float and Makola Market Outreach on Ghana's Ban on Styrofoam Products (Takeaway Packs)
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), on Tuesday, 28th July 2026, organized a public awareness float and Makola Market outreach to educate traders, consumers, and the general public on Ghana’s ban on Styrofoam Products (Takeaway Packs). The exercise formed part of the Authority’s nationwide public education campaign aimed at promoting sustainable packaging alternatives and supporting the successful implementation of the ban.
The day’s activities commenced with a float led by the Chief Executive Officer of the EPA, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, together with Management and staff of the Authority. The procession started from the EPA Head Office, passed through the principal streets of Osu, and continued to Makola Market (Rawlings Park), drawing the attention of motorists, commuters, traders, and pedestrians. Throughout the route, campaign messages were disseminated to raise awareness of the environmental and public health hazards associated with Styrofoam Products (Takeaway Packs) and to encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives.
As part of the educational activities, the Bus Stop Boys staged a practical demonstration illustrating the dangers associated with the use and improper disposal of Styrofoam Products (Takeaway Packs).
A key highlight of the programme was the official launch of the public education campaign by the Chief Executive Officer of the EPA, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse. In her address, she reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to the effective implementation and enforcement of the ban while encouraging businesses, food vendors, and consumers to embrace sustainable packaging solutions that protect both public health and the environment.
