Nordic and Baltic energy ministers to discuss closer energy cooperation

Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala will attend the Nordic-Baltic 8 (NB8) meeting of energy ministers in Tallinn on 4 September 2026. In the meeting, representatives of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will discuss the energy situation in Ukraine, critical energy infrastructure and the competitiveness of the energy market.

Introductions to the topics will be given by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Energy Anatolii Kutsevol and Andres Sutt, Minister of Energy and the Environment of Estonia, which currently holds the NB8 chairmanship.

“The cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries has risen in significance, especially in terms of improving energy security, protecting critical infrastructure and increasing the resilience of societies. From Finland’s point of view, it is important that the EU also recognises the need to support the security and repair of critical underwater infrastructure,” Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala says.

She will also visit NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn.

NB8 is a cooperation format between the Nordic and Baltic countries based on regular dialogue at ministerial and official level on current regional and international issues, such as foreign and security policy, defence cooperation and energy issues. Estonia holds the rotating chairmanship of NB8 in 2026.
