Situated at the heart of Europe, Hungary and Germany are united by a long-standing friendship based on deeply rooted historical, cultural, economic and societal ties. Almost 35 years after the signing of the German-Hungarian friendship treaty in 1992, we want to strengthen our partnership, embark on a new trust-based chapter in German-Hungarian relations and forge our future in the European Union together. With this in mind, we have agreed the following with regard to the renewal of our bilateral relations. At a time of geopolitical and geo-economic challenges, and in the spirit of European solidarity as European Union Member States and NATO Allies, we jointly stand up for a strong, secure, free and competitive Europe. German-Hungarian cooperation in the automobile industry, as well as in many other economic sectors, already makes a major contribution to our national economies today.
