Signing of the Third Bilateral Swap Arrangement between Japan and Malaysia
Japan and Malaysia have signed the Third Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA)[1] with a maximum swap amount of up to USD6 billion.
The agreement was signed between the Bank of Japan (BOJ), acting as agent for the Minister of Finance of Japan, and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), effective on 18 September 2026.
Japan and Malaysia agree that the BSA will further deepen financial cooperation between the two countries and enhance regional financial stability
[1] The BSA is a bilateral agreement that allows both parties to exchange their respective local currencies for U.S dollars. The arrangement also allows BNM to exchange Malaysian ringgit for Japanese yen.
