Under Spring Economic Update 2026, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is investing almost $1 billion over five years to repair, maintain and modernize Canada’s small craft harbours. This new economic investment will help build a climate-resilient, safe and future-ready harbour network across the country.
Today’s announcement for work on Phase 2 of a three-phase major project at Red Head Harbour in Morell, Prince Edward Island (PEI), is one example of vital investments for the future.
Specifics of the anticipated cost for the project cannot be issued at this time. The call for bids for the construction work will be issued shortly.
Roughly 46 vessels berth at Red Head Harbour over the spring, summer and fall fishing seasons. The major fisheries which take place from Red Head are lobster, Bluefin tuna and groundfish. Aquaculturists also operate from Red Head.
