Canada has what the world wants, and to build a more prosperous, sovereign and resilient economy, we are expanding and strengthening our international energy exports. Providing Canadian energy to our allies reinforces global energy security, domestic prosperity, lower-carbon energy markets and Canada’s position as an energy superpower.

On September 14, 2026, Ksi Lisims LNG announced its third international offtake agreement, signing a Heads of Agreement with Santos, one of Australia’s leading domestic gas suppliers and a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplier in Asia. The agreement is for the sale and purchase of 1 million tonnes per annum of LNG from Ksi Lisims for a term of 20 years. This is the third international agreement Ksi Lisims has signed this year, following deals with Uniper and SEFE, both Germany-based companies.

Until last year, Canada relied almost entirely on the U.S. market for its natural gas exports. Agreements such as this broadens our customer base, enhancing our trading network, economic sovereignty and global energy security. This deal supports the federal government’s trade diversification agenda, enabling us to go from less than 0.01 percent of our natural gas exports being sent to non-U.S. markets in 2024 to an estimated 55 percent by the early- to mid-2030s.
