Announcement

Stéphanie Paquette will demystify the role of the CRTC and present its key priorities in telecommunications and broadcasting.

Stéphanie Paquette, Commissioner, Quebec
Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)

Thank you for this invitation. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to speak with the business community of greater Joliette today. You contribute to the region’s economic vitality and, in doing so, to the prosperity of our province and our country.

Before I begin, I’d like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional unceded territory of the Atikamekw Nation, a land that has served as a place of passage, gathering and exchange for many First Nations since time immemorial. I pay tribute to its Elders, and to past, present and future generations.

This is my first time participating in this event. As I prepared for today’s meeting, I took the opportunity to learn more about your organization and the key issues of concern for entrepreneurs and businesspeople in your region. My experience in this field has taught me that commerce, business and communications are deeply interconnected and continually shape one another. Whether through connectivity, innovation or access to markets, communications play a vital role in business success. For that reason, I felt it was important to make greater use of opportunities like this one to meet and exchange ideas.

Since this is our first meeting, I’d like to begin with a brief introduction to the CRTC. For those who may be less familiar with our organization, I’ll take a few moments to explain who we are and what we do.
