Minister Tavio to attend informal meeting of EU development ministers

EU ministers responsible for development are holding an informal meeting in Dublin, Ireland, on 8–9 October. Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will represent Finland at the meeting.

EU development ministers will discuss the future of development policy in a changing global environment and the challenges facing the humanitarian system. The development ministers of Iceland, the United Kingdom, Canada and Norway as well as UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher will also be in attendance.

“Finland has placed the national interest perspective at the heart of its development policy, an approach that can also be adopted more widely across the EU. A key way to implement development policy that creates mutual benefits is to link trade and development. The EU's Global Gateway projects, for example, provide a concrete means of doing so. At the same time, Finland highlights the importance of humanitarian access, particularly in the most severe crisis,” Minister Tavio says.
