Health security firmly on the agenda at the World Health Summit
Today’s complex security environment demands an all-hazard, all-threat approach that brings together defence, diplomacy, development, innovation and strong multilateral cooperation. Against the backdrop of a whole range of threats – from armed conflicts and pandemics to the climate crisis, supply chain vulnerabilities and dual-use biotechnology – the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) will co-cost a Global Health Lab on 11 October during the World Health Summit, together with the EU medical military staff of the European External Action Service.
Sandra Gallina, SANTE Director-General will lead the World Health Summit delegation, speaking at several sessions under the theme "From Crisis to Resilience: Innovating for Health".
In line with the Global Health Resilience Initiative, she will reiterate the EU’s strong commitment and leadership in global health based on the EU’s health policy model, expertise and partnerships. This requires country-led resilient health systems, global surveillance, preparedness and response networks as well as a reformed global health architecture. Moreover, given the fast-moving geopolitical situation, DG SANTE will call for a true ‘One Health-security’ framework that bridges civilian and defence systems.
