Finland to show strong support for Ukraine at international meetings

Minister of Finance Riikka Purra will participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Bangkok on 15–17 October.

Finland will continue to show strong support for Ukraine at the meetings. During the week, Purra will also attend a ministerial meeting on Ukraine, a meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and a high-level panel discussion on economic security.

In addition to strongly supporting Ukraine, Finland will emphasise the importance of a multilateral and rules-based international system at the meetings. 

“Geopolitical uncertainty is challenging the global economy and international cooperation. In this situation, Finland’s strong support for Ukraine and the rules-based international system is even more important. At the same time, we need measures to boost sustainable growth, investment and new jobs”, Purra says.

The global economy has shown resilience, although developments have been uneven and fiscal space is shrinking in many economies. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East are further increasing uncertainty and maintaining pressure on raw material prices and inflation. The impacts of artificial intelligence will also be discussed.

Development Committee to discuss the role of the private sector in growth and development

The Development Committee will focus on mobilising private capital and on the role of the private sector in creating jobs globally.
