Energy smart data legislative framework

Imported from official source

This consultation seeks views on the government’s proposals for the scope, design and implementation of a smart data legislative framework for the energy sector. The legislative framework would build on existing energy digitalisation initiatives, while introducing mandatory requirements for relevant data holders to make specified datasets available securely to authorised services where consumers choose to share their data.

It seeks evidence on the datasets, participants, consumer protections, accreditation, governance and funding arrangements needed to enable trusted, secure and interoperable consumer-authorised data sharing. The government proposes to make regulations using powers under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.

The government would like to hear from a wide range of stakeholders, including energy suppliers, network companies, system operators, code bodies, authorised third parties, data and digital service providers, consumer groups, technology companies, innovators, academics, regulators and any organisations with an interest in energy, data, digitalisation and consumer protection.
