Today, at the European AI in Science Summit in Dublin, the European Commission launched the RAISE (Resource for AI Science in Europe) pledging initiative for AI in Science Enablers. This initiative aims to mobilise private-sector and philanthropic support for European researchers working across artificial intelligence and science, beyond what public funding alone can provide.
The RAISE AI in Science Enablers will support the development and deployment of AI to drive scientific breakthroughs and boost Europe's innovation capacity and competitiveness. The initiative will also help build closer links between private actors and the AI-in-science community by creating opportunities for matchmaking and collaboration.
The initiative is part of the AI in Science Strategy. It brings together in-kind contributions from industry and philanthropic organisations, such as access to frontier AI models, computing capacity, research software licences, data, training and other resources needed to advance scientific discovery with AI. It also aims to connect scientific excellence with technological expertise and resources to speed up progress in AI for science.
Initial commitments have been made by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Nvidia, Elsevier, Sanofi, Frontiers, Mistral, and Google DeepMind. The initiative remains open to further contributions.
As part of the initiative, Mistral AI and CERN launched a new partnership to develop what is set to become the largest foundation model in physics. The collaboration reflects the aim of the RAISE Pledging Initiative: to bring together Europe's scientific excellence and industrial innovation with key resources to accelerate AI for science.
