Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program Newfoundland and Labrador announcement

The website TakeCharge – Greener Homes Program lays out the process for interconnected electricity grid applicants. The overall homeowner journey should take between four and six months.

  • Apply to the program: Residents submit an application to TakeCharge to confirm program eligibility.
  • Application verified and approval obtained: TakeCharge reviews the application for eligibility requirements and sends you an energy assessment approval code.
  • Receive a home energy assessment: Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants select an energy auditor from a pre-approved list and schedule a home energy assessment to identify which energy-efficiency retrofits would be most beneficial, such as a heat pump, insulation, or air sealing.
  • Contractors selected: Applicant selects contractor(s) from a pre-approved list for a quote that is reviewed by TakeCharge.
  • Retrofits installed: Upon project approval, contractor completes retrofits.
  • Receive a follow-up assessment: After the retrofits are installed, the selected energy auditor schedules and conducts a final inspection and sends an audit report to both the applicant and TakeCharge.
  • TakeCharge issues final payment to contractors: Upon review of the audit report, TakeCharge issues payments to contractors and auditors.
  • Depending on eligibility and pre-approval, upgrade projects may include:

In isolated diesel communities, energy efficiency programs are designed to meet the unique needs of each community and its residents. Since every community is different, available upgrades may vary to provide the greatest benefit.

Isolated communities can apply using the same portal and TakeCharge will reach out to determine eligible retrofit upgrades. Timelines may vary due to transportation, shipping, and supply chain considerations.
