Thank you for your e-mail of 30 August 2024, in which you ask for the following information:

Data regarding the general cost of forensic service, specifying individually fingerprints, dna and digital forensics technology to date. This is to include collection costs, sending them off to the lab, storage costs and destruction costs.

Data regarding the total cost of Forensic science service use in the last 5 years.

Your request has been handled as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The role of the Forensic Science Regulator is to ensure that appropriate quality standards are developed, implemented and maintained for the provision of forensic science services across the criminal justice system.

The Forensic Science Regulator does not hold any data on the general cost of forensic service, and on the total cost of Forensic sciences services use in the last 5 years.

If you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an independent internal review of our handling of your request by submitting a complaint within two months to [email protected], quoting reference FSR-FOI-0028.

If you ask for an internal review, it would be helpful if you could say why you are dissatisfied with the response.

As part of any internal review the Department’s handling of your information request would be reassessed by staff who were not involved in providing you with this response.
